Runners MOT

Who is a Runners MOT for?

Runner’s MOT is appropriate for runners of all levels of ability. The goal is to address aches and pains related to running, reduce risk of future injury, and improve running efficiency. If you are currently having significant pain when running or have sustained a serious injury, physiotherapy assessment and treatment may be preferable until pain is better under control. As a general rule, if you are unable to run for 10 minutes without significant pain then it is best to have a physiotherapy assessment first.

Treatment sessions

£80
Estimate time : 60 mins

The runner’s MOT includes:

  • A brief history of your running habits and relevant medical history

  • Functional movement assessment to determine what underlying deficits in strength and/or mobility may be contributing to any abnormalities in your running form.

  • Biomechanical video analysis of your running form

  • Corrective exercises and running plan prescribed based on functional movement assessment + video analysis

Corrective exercises based on findings in both the functional movement assessment and video running analysis will be prescribed for you following the session. If applicable, you will be given a running plan including cues to focus on during your runs to address any abnormalities in your running gait. Depending on our findings, it may be suggested you attend a follow up physio appointment to continue and progress with your treatment.

The entire initial appointment will take up to an hour (£80). Expect to run for around 10-15 minutes.

Wear minimal and tighter fitting clothing as this will allow for a more accurate movement assessment. If you are comfortable performing the assessment in a sports bra or shirtless, this is recommended. At a minimum, knees and ankles should be visible.

Many running or gait analyses are focused solely on the positioning of the ankles and feet or prescribing shoes or insoles. Our Runner’s MOT includes a full body assessment to determine where deficits in strength, stability, or mobility may be and correlates this to your running form to create a bespoke exercise and running plan for you. Since the assessment is performed by a physio, we are also able to provide ongoing physio treatment to address identified deficits if needed.
